And she's docked! Looks like the second ship is waiting out of port. Maybe for loading on Sparta II to complete?

Also, if they can't manage an unopposed naval evacuation, that's not really the syrians problem. The russians can just leave that s400 behind and hop on an airplane.

How can you justify buying NO for 87cts? Russian ships are waiting for permission to enter the port, Russian gear, including gear like the s400 thats needed for securing the base, is gathering in the port, western diplomacy is getting into gear and the syrian population dislikes the russian presence.

From what I'm reading the s400 isn't really necessary to defend russian forces in khmeimim and tartus. That task can performed by the russian ships stationed there. I guess it was mainly meant as a big gesture of support to the Assad regime and to dissuade attacks on it by Israel, the US and Turkey.

This Bloomberg article is obviously bad for yes, but it honestly doesn't make much sense for Syria to allow Russia to stay, or for the US and Europe to accept continued Russian presence. I wouldn't be so sure about that. They can deliver heavy weapons and perform airstrikes wherever the americans are not. Just how Israel bombed all across syria without hitting a single russian target. Syria also needs new military hardware after israels strikes and they have decades of experience with russian gear.

That makes sense. Let's hope the west isn't as incompetent as I'm starting to think. Might also be that HTS wants to dominate Syria entirely, Kurds & all. The west probably wouldn't support them in that. Russia needs the base and has no moral qualms. They definitely are a better ally to aggressive/extremist regimes than any western country.
