If NATO wanted to invade Russia they can march through north Ukraine directly to Moscow. How does taking eastern Ukraine prevent that?

Ukraine holds less than 0.5% of Russian land mass. Russia has taken 18-20% of the land Ukraine owned. The east is now Russian, forever. How do you negotiate for land swaps when you hold nothing of value? Ukraine are acting delusional, good luck getting Crimea back.
